Addiction Awareness Week: ‘Addiction left me with a lasting imprint of stigma’
November 26, 2025
Family members and carers often play a crucial role in supporting someone who is facing mental health challenges, addiction, or other complex circumstances. At the same time, caring for someone can be stressful, exhausting, and emotionally demanding, and carers’ own wellbeing can be affected.
Family and carer support offers guidance, advice, and a safe space to talk for those who care for others. It can help people understand the challenges their loved ones are facing, develop coping strategies, manage stress, and access practical resources or services. It also encourages carers to think about their wellbeing and ensure they take time to look after themselves.

Our aim is to help carers feel informed, supported, and better able to care for themselves and their loved ones. At Adferiad, we provide compassionate, tailored support for families and carers. We offer support for unpaid carers across the majority of counties across Wales, giving opportunities for carers to take time out from their responsibilities, meet other carers, access financial and wellbeing support.

We also give carers an opportunity to access peer support and have a voice in how services are delivered.
