Parkland Place Llandudno, Adferiad’s new independent specialist recovery hospital, was officially opened by Nerys Evans MS, Deputy Minister for Public and Preventative Health, on Thursday 5 November.
The ceremony included the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the occasion, with speeches from the Deputy Minister along with Dr Alun Thomas, Chief Executive of Adferiad, and Rev Sue Northcott, Adferiad’s Chair of Trustees.
Based at Lady Forester House (the former Blind Veterans UK building), the purpose-designed 40-bed facility expands Adferiad’s capacity to support people affected by substance use and addictions across North Wales and beyond. The hospital provides specialist detoxification and residential rehabilitation services, building on the work of Adferiad’s former Hafan Wen service at Wrexham Maelor Hospital, which closed earlier in the year. The development represents a significant investment in recovery services during Adferiad’s 50th anniversary year. It has created 70 jobs, including at least 30 new opportunities local to Llandudno, and provides a modern, therapeutic environment for people beginning their recovery journey.
Dr Alun Thomas said:
“Parkland Place Llandudno marks an important milestone for Adferiad in our 50th anniversary year. We wish to thank the Deputy Minister for officially opening this fantastic facility, which allows us to expand our capacity to provide specialist support for people affected by substance use.
The investment reflects our commitment to giving people access to high-quality compassionate care and the opportunity to build better lives. We know that life isn’t always straightforward and our role is to stand alongside people, ensuring no one is left without support when they need it”.
Nerys Evans MS, Deputy Minister for Public and Preventative Health said:
"Substance misuse is one of the greatest public health challenges we face, but we know recovery is possible when the right support is provided. Parkland Place will give people a safe, compassionate space to take their first steps towards rebuilding their lives, and I thank everyone at Adferiad for their vision and hard work in making this facility a reality."
